Why did my TikTok video get muted?

Why TikTok mutes videos and how to avoid it when using Slipstream music.

Written by Dan Demole

The Most Common Reason: The 60-Second Rule

TikTok automatically mutes any video that uses more than 59 seconds of a single song. This is a TikTok platform policy β€” not a Slipstream issue.

The Fix

For TikToks longer than 1 minute, use multiple songs and keep each song to 59 seconds or less. You can use as many songs as you need in one video.

Business Accounts

TikTok Business accounts have stricter music rules. They can only use songs from TikTok's Commercial Music Library (CML) β€” even if the music is licensed through Slipstream.

Slipstream can distribute individual tracks to the TikTok CML. This process takes 3–5 business days and is best suited for planned campaigns. Contact support@slipstreammusic.com to arrange this.

Still Getting Muted?

If your video is still muted after following the steps above, email us at support@slipstreammusic.com with:

  • The link to the affected TikTok

  • The Slipstream track name and artist

We'll look into it and respond within 24–48 hours.
